Suchitlán
Suchitlán is a delightful small town in a coffee growing region near the active Volcan de Fuego.
Suchitlán is a friendly place where you may walk and explore the village on rustic cobblestone streets. When you are ready for a rest take a cool & shady break in Suchitlán's charming plaza.
Suchitlán is home to many tallers (workshops) where local artisans make fascinating wooden mascaras (masks). The masks are carved from pine, hand painted and sometimes adorned with horsehair beards and other decorative touches. We will visit one or more of these workshops while we are in Suchitlán.
We will celebrate our visit to Suchitlán with a mid afternoon lunch under the coffee trees at the locally legendary open air Los Portales Restaurant. Here you will dine on exquisite regional cuisine. I had lunch here in December and the chicken en mole was the best I have ever had. You will find a wide range of dishes featuring the fine meats, fruits and vegetables of the region.

Los Portales is really special and fills up on weekend afternoons with people from la ciudad Colima and all over the region. Los Portales was written up in the New York Times a while back as must do for off the beaten path travelers.
